San Casciano Smart Place app for iPhone and iPad

San Casciano Smart Place is the official app of the San Casciano Val di Pesa municipality. Through it you can discover and appreciate this beautiful country in the heart of Chianti, near Florence and Siena, and you can get to know the people who live there. Thanks to the augmented reality and the smart map, the app creates interactive paths to help you to visit the land. More than this, the geotagged contents enrich your experience, giving you the chance to read and listen to interesting and engaging stories about the territory, its history, its culture and its great excellences.


DISCOVER: Niccolò Macchiavelli wrote his masterpiece The Prince during his exile in San Casciano Val di Pesa 500 years ago. Nowadays, thanks to the path in augmented reality titled The Prince’s ghosts, which runs from Florence to San Casciano, you can retrace the tracks of the great Renaissance genius, discovering the public history and the private life of Niccolò. It is a great opportunity to find out his adventurous events through a tour of the places which represented the fortune and misfortune of Machiavelli: from Santa Croce to the Uffizi square, from Palazzo Vecchio (the symbol of political power in Florence) to the Bargello (where Machiavelli himself had been imprisoned and tortured), up to Machiavelli’s house in SantAndrea in Percussina (where The Prince had been conceived and written).


EXPLORE: There are a lot of cities which offer more than it may appear at first sight. In the case of San Casciano Val di Pesa, the old city center and the surrounding area are the scene of historical events that have not been discovered yet. The path titled San Casciano Smart Place allows you to appreciate the history of this village with interesting anecdotes too. From the famous Stele dellArciere of the Etruscan age to Mario Merz’s contemporary art that dominates the village from the ancient walls. Passing by the Chianti Tower and the Piazzone, by the famous theater Niccolini and the Museum of San Casciano, by the Clock Tower and the Santa Maria del Prato church, by the Dante Tacci park and the ghost of tramway that a century ago linked San Casciano to Florence.

TASTE: Thanks to the smart map you are able to focalize all the stages of the visit paths, moreover you can discover the farms, the restaurants and the holidays farms located in the San Casciano area. In this way you can get in touch with all the facilities so that you have the chance to plan every details of your journey: you can taste typical products and food that are appreciated in the whole world or organize a special dinner that you will never forget!

The app has been conceived and planned by the Communication Strategies Lab of the University of Florence and developed by the software house 3Logic and it is the official app of the the San Casciano VaI di Pesa municipality. All the process involved the whole community of San Casciano: the protagonists were the institutions, the associations, the economical and commercial realities and citizens. One of the aim of CSL’s project was to coordinate every protagonist to create a real, passionate and amusing story of this incredible village.
The app works entirely offline too. Thanks to the GPS technology you can get all the texts, pictures and audio-stories even without an internet connection.
